Trailblazers Fall to Olney Central at Home
VINCENNES, Ind. — Vincennes University Baseball dropped a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening, falling 15–1 to Olney Central College at Jerry Blemker Field. The Trailblazers move to 14-26 overall and remain 8-12 in Region 24/MWAC play.
Olney Central broke the game open early, scoring five runs in the second inning before adding on throughout, including a six-run fifth, to build separation.
Head Coach Chris Barney, in his 18th season at the helm, pointed to a lack of carryover and missed early opportunities as key factors. "Disappointing loss after winning our last game vs Parkland," Barney said. "I thought we would bring some momentum into today's game, but we did not. We had some early opportunities to score but didn't step up."
Freshman Tannar Patterson led the Trailblazers offensively, going 2-for-2, while freshman Ethan Papalios went 1-for-3 with a walk. Sophomore Carter Gricius went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored the team's lone run, and freshman Ryan Crawford added a hit, going 1-for-1. Freshman Dillon Warnick accounted for the RBI, recording a double and finishing 1-for-2 as Vincennes totaled five hits and drew six walks.
On the mound, freshman Drake Hoffa (1-2) was charged with the loss. Freshman Brody Wenzler and freshman Deacon Lewis provided solid relief outings, each showing effectiveness in their appearances as the Trailblazers worked through multiple arms.
Barney also noted the demanding stretch of games and the need for response moving forward. "It's been a rough stretch with the schedule due to weather, playing nine games in six days," Barney added. "This was our fifth game in three days, but our players need to respond and be ready for the next opportunity."
VU returns to Midwest Athletic Conference play April 10–11 with a four-game series at No. 17 Heartland Community College. The Trailblazers will open with a doubleheader Friday, April 10, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. EST, followed by another doubleheader Saturday, April 11, also beginning at 1 p.m. EST.
